Jason Johnson in
the Supaloc/Jim Beam Disbury racing
Eagle resumed his winning ways on a
tough night at Rolling Thunder Raceway
last night (January 2nd).
Johnson was
declared the winner of the Sprintcar
Thunder Showdown following a sickening
crash that left Northern Territorian
Mark Grosvenor in a serious condition.
Grosvenor was
attended by the Race Safe team and
Paramedics and was carefully extracted
from his mangled car and air lifted to
hospital were his condition was
described as serious.
Rolling Thunder
management had no hesitation in
cancelling the remainder of the race
program and would like to express
their deep concern and best wishes for
Marks wellbeing and recovery.
Prior to
Grosvenor’s accident Johnson had
driven brilliantly to run down early
leader Danny Reidy who was able to
hang on for second place ahead of Mark
Dobmeier, Troy Little and Max Dumesny.
Grosvenor himself had been driving
well sitting just outside a top five
finish.
Earlier in the
night the heat race action in both the
open and Sprintcar Thunder (360’s)
events had been top class with a
number of thrilling finishes keeping
the crowd on their toes.
Dobmeier had made
his Rolling Thunder Raceway debut a
successful one winning the opening
heat from the front row and then Luke
Dillon, making his 410ci Sprintcar
debut in brother Lee’s car, won the
second heat. Reidy backed up his
opening heat runner up finish with a
win in heat three to secure pole for
the final with Little scoring the win
in heat four.
In the Sprintcar
Thunder Series heats it was South
Australian Darryl Wright he scored the
first heat win Little, Tony Moule and
Ian Lewis taking the other heat wins.
Little had secured
pole for this classes feature event
where he was scheduled to line up
alongside Moule with Darren Hickman
and Lewis on the second row.
