Sydney’s Troy
Little is in ominous form at the
moment having won his fifth feature
event for the season and at the same
time picking up $5,000 for his efforts
in the Rolling Thunder Raceway $5,000
Sprintcar Challenge. The head to head
clash with Texan Travis Rilat sadly
never eventuated due to engine dramas,
however David Murcott, a multiple
feature winner here at Bacchus Marsh,
was in fine form sharing the lead back
and forth with Little in an
enthralling race. Unfortunately
Murcotts', and third placed Adrian
Maher’s races, came unglued on the
last lap allowing Danny Reidy and
Allan Barlee to benefit and grab the
final podium positions.
The AMCA nationals
inaugurated a new and prestigious
event in memory of the late Ian
Campbell and as a tribute his son
Stewart Grant-Campbell in the #79 AMCA
paraded the flags ahead of the pack
before taking his allotted place in
the field. Ballarat’s Mick Clark
scored the win ahead of Mick Jackson,
Brett Neylan, Grant-Campbell and Chris
Best. Hot chances Ricky Barrand and
Mark Weaver both failed to finish,
Barrand with a flat tyre while in the
lead.
United National
Security kicked the can for the mighty
midgets and in a bit of an upset it
was David Crabtree who scored a
convincing win ahead of Troy Jordan,
Darren Power, Harley Bishop and Jason
Forbes.
The next meeting at
Rolling Thunder Raceway on January 3
will pay $10,000 to win for the
Sprintcars.
“I may not have won
tonight but I’ll be back on January 3rd
to take the $10,000.” Promised Rilat.
“I hear they’re considering a $50,000
front row challenge style event here.
Hell, I’ll start from the pits if they
make it $100,000.” The American joked.
Rilat will have
some serious competition though on
January 3rd including
compatriot Daryn Pittman who’ll be
driving the V8 car driven last night
by Ryan Farrell.
January 3rd
will also see the debut in Victoria of
the Late Model Sedans as they contest
their King of Thunder championship.
The big Late Models were custom made
for fast wide racetracks like Rolling
Thunder and are sure to put on a great
display with the likes of Brad Blake,
Kevin Bell and Bert and Craig
Vosbergen amongst their number.
The AMCA Nationals
will be back for another tilt with the
final round of the Hooters Pro Cup
Challenge.
