Solomon’s Series
Allstars Media posted Wednesday April 29, 2009.

Congratulations Paul Solomon for a great series........We said it was going to be a nail biter and it sure was! With the rain added just to make it a bit more difficult for everyone.
Hickman, Brooks and Solomon were fighting it out for the Series with only 11 points the difference going into the weekend’s racing. The A Main lined up with #V40 Darren Hickmans Deep Creek Marina Hotel J&J and #V7 Paul Solomon’s Formula Motorsport’s Eagle of the front row. VSA75 Colin Brook’s Bartlett Motorsport Cool out of 6. The Series was going to be one and lost in this A Main.

“I can imagine how much pressure these 3 guys had on them, even my stomach was churning as they lined up for the feature. Paul’s driving has matured so much over this season but he is still young and it is a lot of pressure to put on him. Darren has been chasing his tail the last few shows and spent more time in the shed than on the race track. Bringing out a new and unproven car for the final must have been some concern to the team.” says Mandy Searle, Series Promoter. “They both knew they had SA75 Colin Brooks hot on their heels and would pounce at the earliest chance. Colin made the 3 way dice for the Series even more exciting”

30 laps later and the winner was decided. “Paul pulled up at the scales after his 3rd place Feature finish and I told him he had won the Series. He had not realized this as he was focused on the feature. I am sure it took a moment or two to actually sink in.” quotes Race Director Kerrie Barker.
Hickman’s Series did not finish how he would have liked as he spent 26 laps on the infield, with another bent race car. But to his credit the very well spoken and level headed Hickman took it on the chin and even apologized for a small outburst as he stepped out of his crashed race car. “Darren has been a huge influence on the All Star Series, his quick witted personality always ensures us laughs at our drivers meeting, and his common sense outlook on things always refreshing to hear.” says Mandy.

Rookie racer Brooks drove a consistent race and finished in 5th place. “Colin always has a smile on his face – it is a pleasure to see. But I reckon we should call him the ‘smiling assassin’, he certainly knows how to drive a race car.” Mandy says.

This was far enough back to give Solomon the Series.
Paul Solomon – 2633
Colin Brooks – 2623
Darren Hickman - 2602
31 points the difference after 10 rounds.
